Every subtest explained, how the 20–80 score works, the retake rule, and how to study.

What to expect

  • Four-option knowledge questions with a worked explanation each.
  • On the real SIFT: 40 questions in 30 minutes.
  • Rotary-wing focus, with some fixed-wing fundamentals.

What it measures

  • Helicopter aerodynamics: lift, torque, autorotation, translational lift
  • Controls and components: cyclic, collective, pedals, swashplate, tail rotor
  • Army airframes and general aviation terminology

Instructions

  1. 1Learn what each control does: collective = lift, cyclic = direction, pedals = yaw.
  2. 2Understand torque and why a tail rotor exists.
  3. 3Know the Army's main airframes and their roles.

Tips

  • The free FAA Helicopter Flying Handbook is the best single source.
  • Master autorotation, translational lift and dissymmetry of lift.
  • This is the most study-able section — bank the points.
